This Portuguese explorer had a perfect background to be a great navigator. Magellan was used to being by the sea a lot. Most of the world’s best navigators were from Portugal. He had the best education available to explorers and navigators. His job was to help the boats and ships get ready to sail. He studied sailing and stars. He’s been through hard work and pushing the ships to get going. Ferdinand Magellan was a hard workingman. Ferdinand had many journeys across the world .He went to Spain in 1517.When he went to Spain he was looking for new land. The king sent him and his crew to set sail. The king wanted him to go because he wanted wealth and money. Ferdinand and his crew had a rough time on their ship. Ferdinand had many exciting journeys across the country. In 1505 Magellan sailed to India. On his way, he sailed with Giovanni Da Verrazzana. When he went to India, he tried to find treasure. In 1520 Magellan found a way to enter the Pacific Ocean from the Atlantic Ocean. The waters got rough and things got bad. Ferdinand Magellan was a great man. Ferdinand named the Pacific Ocean.
